The firm has been continually located in Piedmont, Missouri, since its inception and is now located on the second floor of the Peoples Community Bank building at 1401 North Main Street, Piedmont, Missouri.

Established in in 1973 by L. Dwayne Hackworth, Hackworth, Ferguson & Thompson L.L.C. has provided over 40 years of continuous legal service to Southeast Missouri, including, but not limited to, the following counties: Wayne, Reynolds, Iron, Butler, Ripley, and Carter under various names, including Hackworth Law Office, Hackworth & Schuller Law Offices, Hackworth, Kime & Bowles L.L.C., Hackworth, Kime and Hackworth L.L.C., Hackworth, Hackworth, & Ferguson L.L.C. and currently Hackworth, Ferguson & Thompson, L.L.C.

The firm presently consists of four partners, L. Dwayne Hackworth, of Counsel, Michael J. Hackworth, Managing Partner, Joy J. Ferguson, and Jennifer Hackworth Thompson; one associate, Jason M. Cox and two certified paralegals, Gloria J. McAllister and Pamela S. Deckard. L. Dwayne Hackworth, senior partner is a lifelong resident of Reynolds County, Missouri, a former Reynolds County Prosecutor and graduate of the University of Missouri law school with his primary focus in the areas of Commercial and Business La, Litigation and Estate Planning. Michael J. Hackworth is also a lifelong resident of Reynolds County, Missouri, and a graduate of the University of Missouri, Kansas City law school with his primary focus in Criminal Law, Personal Injury, Wrongful Death, Litigation, Divorce, and Workers’ Compensation cases. Joy J. Ferguson is a lifelong resident of Wayne County, Missouri and a graduate of the University of Missouri law school with her primary focus in Divorce, Estate Planning, Bankruptcy, Litigation, Social Security and appellate practice. Jennifer Hackworth Thompson is a lifelong resident of Reynolds County, Missouri and a graduate of the University of Missouri law school, with her primary focus in Family Law, including Divorce Law, Custody, Child Support, Adoptions, Real Estate, Estate Planning, Probate including Guardianships & Estate Administration, Bankruptcy, Banking Law, and Personal Injury. Jason M. Cox is a resident of Madison County, Missouri and a graduate of Southern Illinois University School of Law with his focus being in Criminal Law, Family and Domestic Law and Civil Litigation. Gloria J. McAllister and Pamela S. Deckard are both certified paralegal assistants and have over 45 years combined experience with the firm. Pamela S. Deckard, also the Office Manager, has been with the firm since 1991. The firm is also General Counsel for one area bank, Peoples Community Bank, which has 14 locations across Southeast Missouri, City Attorney for the City of Ellington, City of Bunker, Attorneys for Public Water Supply Districts #1 & #2 of Butler County, and attorneys for Wayne County Abstract and Title Company and Current River Abstract and Title Company.
